The public has voted The Distance Between Me and Me, by Mona Nicoară and Dana Bunescu and 3 Faces, by Jafar Panahi – 

Over ten days, Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest brought sold out screenings of Cannes award winners, autumn previews, auteur retrospectives, the Mexican Focus, and special screenings to the big screens, at Cinema PRO, Cinema Elvire Popesco, Cinema Muzeul Țăranului, Cinemateca Union, CINETic and Grand Cinema&More in Băneasa Shopping City.

The award gala of the Bucharest edition of the festival took place this evening. The founder of the festival, director Cristian Mugiu, announced the winners of the ninth edition of Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest on stage. The films are:

The winner of the Filminute competition, chosen out of 25 competing titles, is ONE, by Russian director Roman Sinitsyn.

The winners of the Une minute de vie, une minute de cinema section – one minute films directed by highschool students from three Bucharest institutions: The Bilingual Highschool „Miguel de Cervantes”, the National College „Spiru Haret,” and the National Bilingual College „George Coșbuc” – are: Schnitzel, Parizer – directed by Matei Reu, David Mitran, and Matei Cotimanis, Rutina / Break Free – by Arina Ciocan, Vlad Cojocaru, Iris Păun and Yala, by Matei Bumbuț.

The jury of Une minute de vie, une minute de cinema and Filminute consisted of: Olivier Dô Hùu, French sound designer and mixer with a career spanning 25 years, Ludmila Cvikova, independent film curator and script, financing, and festival consultant, and Mina Dos Santos, Press Liaison at FILAF – The Livre d’art et du Film Festival in Perpignan, France.

The winner of the third edition of the Works in Progress section went to Marius Olteanu, for the film Monsters. The award, valued at 5000 Euro, was offered by Orange Romania and presented on stage by Mr. Yves Martin, Chief Marketing Officer of Orange Romania.

The winner of the Audience Award in the Aide à la distribution section was 3 Faces, by Iranian director Jafar Panahi. The film will benefit from a Distribution Support award valued at 2500€, offered by the Cinemascop Association. The award was presented by Mrs. Hélène Roos –Director of the French Institute in Romania, and by Ioana Dragomirescu, Head of Programming at the Elvire Popesco cinema.

The winning film of the Audience Award in the Autumn Preview section was The Distance Between Me and Me, by Mona Nicoară and Dana Bunescu. Mr. Bogdan Ficeac, General Director of Dacin Sara, presented the award valued at 5000 Euro, offered by the Collective Gestational Society Dacin Sara, the Cinemascop Association, and the PiArt Vision Agency. The award was presented to Cătălin Anchidin and Ilinca Belciu of Rollercoaster PR.

In the framework of the Managing Talents program, five Romanian actors were selected to participate at the Kilkenny Subtitle Film Festival, where they will have the opportunity to meet with over 80 international casting agents. The actors are: Bogdan Iancu, Alina Șerban, Adrian Titieni, Cristina Flutur and Vlad Ivanov.

Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest received an award from Fundația 9 for the organization of the Lucian Pintilie homage. The award was presented on stage by Mrs. Corina Șuteu, member of the executive board of Fundația 9 and by Mrs. Anca Drăgoi, executive director of the Fundația 9.

The evening came to a close with the national premiere of Sunset, by László Nemes (winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Film for his first feature Son of Saul in 2016. The director joined the audience via Skype prior to the screening, for a short chat with the public.
