For ten days straight, Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest enriched the big screen, at PRO Cinema, Elvire Popesco Cinema, Peasant Museum Cinema, Union Cinematheque, Instituto Cervantes and Auditorium Hall of the Romanian National Museum of Art, with laureate films at Cannes, Romanian premieres, auteur cinema retrospectives, the Spain Focus and special screenings.
The ending ceremony of the Bucharest edition took place this evening and the awards for the tenth edition of Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest were announced on stage. These are the winners:
The winner of the Une minute de vie, une minute de cinema – one-minute long films made by students in five high schools in Bucharest, is the film Domnișoara Amelia, directed by Ruxandra Nițescu, of the “Nicolae Tonitza” Plastic Arts High School. The jury was made up of international filmmakers: Christophe Barral, Beranger Lacoste and Kanon Fukuyama. The film crew received a prize worth 1000 lei, offered by UniCredit Bank and a one-year cinematheque subscription.
The winning films of the public’s prize after the screening on Sunday, 27th October, at Peasant Museum Cinema, are one from each high school: from the ”George Cosbuc” Bilingual National College – Crash, by Vlad Furtună, from the “Nicolae Tonitza” Plastic Arts High School – Domnișoara Amelia, by Ruxandra Nițescu, from the ”Școala Centrală” National College – Eu exist?!, by Iasmina Coman and Maria Stana, from the ”Sfântul Sava” National College – Western cu toaster, by Toma Hurduc and Matei Preda, from the “Spiru Haret” National College – În pas cu lumea, by Andreea Bărgăoanu, Vlad Cocoș, Matei Greceanu, Ștefan Tudorache, Alin Zlotea. Each winning crew received a prize worth 1000 lei, offered by UniCredit Bank and a one-year cinematheque subscription.
The jury of the Une minute de vie, une minute de cinema section was the one to decide the winner of the Filmminute section, as well. Out of the 25 selected films, the jury chose Life Goes On, form Norway, by Henry Knorvalls. The director of the Filmminute programme, John Ketchum, was the one to pick up the prize. After expressing his thanks, he reminded the audience about the date of 31st October, deadline for the public’s prize vote on filmminute.com.
Alex Molico and Andrei Epure, winners of the first edition of the screenplays contest Write a screenplay for…, organized by Cinemascop Association, with the support of HBO Europe, stepped on stage to claim their prizes. These were handed in by the HBO representative, Ioanina Pavel. The theme for the second edition of Write a screenplay for… has also been announced. This year it will focus on actor Vlad Ivanov. Information about the signing-up period will be soon available on filmedefestival.ro.
The winners of the fourth edition of the Works in Progress section, where 22 films in post-production have been discussed, are: the 5.000-euro worth prize consisting of postproduction services, offered by Multimedia Est, went to Ruxandra Ghitescu, for Otto the Barbarian, while the 10.000-euro worth prize, in postproduction services, offered by Cinelab, went to Radu Ciorniciuc, for Home. “The Works in Progress section manages to bring to Bucharest members of selection committees from prestigious festivals and helps with the visibility and overall chances of films”, producer Monica Lazurean Gorgan said, when picking up the prize.
As for the Managing Talents programme, four Romanian actors were short-listed for a meeting with filmmaker Daniel Sandu so as to be distributed in his film Tata mută munții, which will be shot next year. The actors are Radu Mateucă, Ioan Paraschiv, Ana Covalciuc, Andreea Boboc.
At the end, the most voted film in the Autumn preview section was announced: the public’s prize winner was Queen Marie of Romania, by Alexis Sweet Cahill. The 2.500-euro worth prize, offered by the Romanian Cultural Institute was picked up by producer Gabi Antal, who announced that the film will screen in cinema starting 8th November.
The evening came to an end with the screening of Frankie, by Ira Sachs, starring Isabelle Huppert in the lead role.
