fter a warm family embrace at their grandmother’s birthday, a family sets off by boat for Turkey. The trip has a clear purpose: 13-year-old Andrei, who senses the world without being able to see it, needs surgery in Istanbul. Laura, who has lost her memory after an accident, no longer recognises her relatives and was only reluctantly persuaded to come along. The carefully planned voyage takes an unexpected turn when Katerina, a Ukrainian refugee searching for her parents in Turkey, is found hiding on board. The closer they get to their destination, the less certain the reality and purpose of the journey become. Each scene is shot from a different character’s point of view, as if the actors were handing the camera to one another, and the camera sometimes blinks. Fragile memories are pieced together from 8 mm footage and staged scenes.
