Romania, 1987, in the last years of Ceaușescu’s regime. University roommates Otilia and Găbița, living in a provincial town, try to end an unwanted pregnancy at a time when abortion is a criminal offence. Over the course of a single day, the two young women find themselves in a hotel room face to face with the sinister Mr. Bebe, and their friendship is put to the test. Shot in long, unbroken takes, the film shows with unsparing clarity how repression seeps into the most ordinary moments of daily life.
