-Lady Bird, in its Romanian premiere on April 27th –
One of the most acclaimed films of 2017, Lady Bird by Greta Gerwig, winner of two Golden Globes and nominated for five Oscars, will premiere in Romania at the American Independent Film Festival, on Friday, April 27th, at 6pm in Cinema PRO. Tickets for Lady Bird, as well as premiere tickets for Certain Women and The Rider at the American Independent Film Festival are available on HYPERLINK “https://eventbook.ro/program/american-independent-film-festival” Eventbook.ro.
A darling of American indie cinema, Greta Gerwig marks her feature film debut with Lady Bird. She is the youngest director to ever win a Golden Globe, and the fifth woman to be nominated in the category. The Golden Globe for Best Actress in a film (comedy, musical) went to the film’s star, Saoirse Ronan, for her portrayal of Christine „Lady Bird” McPherson, a recent high school graduate who finds herself in conflict with family and friends as she prepares to leave for college.
Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, during the precarious American financial crisis, Lady Bird gives an emotional look into the relations that mold us, the beliefs that define us, and the beauty of that place we call home. The film brings to audiences one of the richest mother-daughter relationships to the big screen, combining classic ‚teenage comedy’ elements with new and fresh nuances. Casting is rounded by Timothée Chalamet, known for his role in Call Me by Your Name, for which he received nominations at the Oscars, the Golden Globes, and the BAFTA’s.
Within this year’s line-up at the American Independent Film Festival, two other films helmed by female directors will be premiering in Romania: The Rider by Chloé Zhao, and Certain Women by Kelly Reichardt. These two profound, warm, nuanced and empathetic works present their characters at different crossroads in life. Both films will be premiering at the Romanian Peasant’s Museum Cinema: The Rider on April 27th at 8:30pm, and Certain Women on April 30th at 8:30pm.
Tickets can be bought on Eventbook.ro and in the Eventbook network.
The program, events and all the news on the festival will be updated on the festival website, on the Facebook page and Instagram account (@AmericanIndependentFilmFest).
The Festival is organized by the Cinemascop Association, supported by Catena, with the support of the Embassy of the United States in Romania and UPC Romania. A cultural project financed by the National Center of Cinematography.
