The series of events introduced by Kent Jones, guest curator of the festival continues

The American Independent Film Festival offers the audience in Bucharest a not to be missed meeting with one of the most promising young American directors. Cinema lovers in Bucharest will have a chance to talk via skype with director Sean Baker, during a Q&A session, that will take place tomorrow evening, just after the screening of The Florida Project”, scheduled at 18:00 at CinemPRO.

“The Florida Project” will show in premiere in Romania on May 2nd, at 20:00, at CinemaPRO, during the American Independent Film Festival, and will be introduced by Kent Jones. On the 3rd of May, after its’ second screening at CinemaPRO (18:00), director Sean Baker will have a live intervention via Skype, moderated by Kent Jones, and the audience will get a chance to ask him a few questions.

After the critically-acclaimed success of “Tangerine”, his previous movie, shot entirely on an iPhone 5s, Sean Baker continues his ascent by creating with “The Florida Project” a wonderful, realist fable of innocence, happiness and familial love in the impoverished communities living on outskirts of Disney World. Having premiered in 2017 at the Cannes Director’s Fortnight to critical acclaim, “The Florida Project” brought Willem Dafoe an Oscar nomination this year for his performance in the film, as well as a Golden Globe nomination.

Instagram star, Bria Vinaite, is also a part of the cast. She plays the role of single-mother Halley who spends her days in the pastel-coloured world of Orlando’s low-income motels, enjoying life to the fullest alongside her six-year-old daughter Moonee (Brooklynn Prince). Their loving protector and motel manager is Bobby (Willem Dafoe). When the dark cloud of poverty threatens to break up their fairy-tale life, Halley’s solution puts them at further risk with dire consequences.
