„The Florida Project” – at the American Independent Film Festival 2018

  • The full screening tickets and program are now available on Eventbook.ro
  • AIFF in Arad, April 27th – 29th at Arta Cinema

Having premiered in 2017 at the Cannes Director’s Fortnight to critical acclaim, „The Florida Project,”  by Sean Baker will be screened for the first time in Romania at the American Independent Film Festival. Willem Dafoe received an Oscar nomination this year for his performance in the film, in a cast which also includes Instagram star, Bria Vinaite.

The complete screening program, taking place at Cinema PRO and Muzeul Țăranului Cinema, is now available on filmedefestival.ro, and tickets can be purchased through Eventbook.ro. Other surprise screenings, to be held in non-conventional spaces, will be announced soon.

Sean Baker’s critically-acclaimed follow-up to TANGERINE is a wonderful, realist fable of innocence, happiness and familial love in the impoverished communities living on outskirts of Disney World. Young single-mother Halley (Bria Vinaite), and her six-year-old daughter Moonee (Brooklynn Prince), spend their days in the pastel-coloured world of Orlando’s low-income motels, enjoying life to the fullest under the guard of their loving protector and motel manager Bobby (Willem Dafoe). When the dark cloud of poverty threatens to break up their fairy-tale life, Halley’s solution puts them at further risk with dire consequences.

Baker’s delicate and tender film is enriched by the extraordinary performances from its non-professional cast, emphasizing empathy above all and refusing to let reality chip away at the magical wonder of life. Screenings will be taking place on May 2nd and 3rd at Cinema PRO, in the framework of the American Independent Film Festival, and will be presented by Kent Jones as part of the „American Independent Cinema Curated by Kent Jones.”
