Maggie Lee is chief film critic for Asia for the well-known American publication Variety. Lee joined the Variety team after having occupied the same position at The Hollywood Reporter (2007-2012). Since 2002 she has been living and working in Japan, first as project manager and selector for Short Shorts Film Festival Asia, then as programming consultant for Tokyo Film Festival. Her editorial and curatorial collaborations include the Hong Kong Film Festival, Hong Kong Film Archive and Singapore National Museum Cinematheque. At the same time, within film workshops, Maggie Lee is providing counselling and mentoring for young critics and filmmakers.
In 2010, Busan Film Festival and the Korean Film Press Association recognized her contribution to Korean cinematography.
