Romanian Film Days and Les Films de Cannes caravans reconnect audiences with the magic of a film seen on the big screen
This summer, the Cinemascop Association and the distribution company Voodoo Films are collaborating to bring Romanian films and international productions to the public in Bucharest, Brăila, Craiova and other cities in the country, in alternative spaces or in areas where they rarely reach, where there are no more cinemas or where the habit of seeing a film at the cinema has gradually disappeared.
The first stop of the Romanian Film Days Caravan is in Bucharest on May 21 at the Roaba de Cultură in Herăstrău, then the caravan sets off on its journey to Brăila on June 12, with stops in Slănic Prahova on June 13 and June 27. Craiova is the next destination on the caravan’s map, passing through Cinema Patria. The full program will be announced soon on Voodoo Films’ social media pages.
At Roba de cultură, in Herăstrău Park, you can see the comedy Hotarul, directed by Ion Borș and Ruslan Moroșan, which will be screened on May 21 at 9:00 PM. In a small village, two families are fighting over a patch of land, and the conflict gets out of control right before the wedding. With its clean and authentic humor, Hotarul is a hit with the audience. On June 24, viewers are invited to watch Caliu. Nothing else, what else can I do?, directed by Simona Constantin. The legendary fiddler Gheorghe “Caliu” Anghel, nicknamed “The Violin King”, lives between the memories of an international glory and the reality of the struggle for recognition in the present. Caliu’s story culminates with the unique presence of Johnny Depp in a key moment of the film, where music and cinema intersect. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the film’s director, Simona Constantin, and Ruxandra Păduraru (Cozerie).
The Les Films de Cannes caravan also begins its journey in the country on May 28 with the formidable Sound of falling/Singure sub soare directed by Mascha Schilinski. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2025, where it won the Jury Prize. Sound of falling/Singure sub soare tells the story of four women, over the course of 100 years, as their destinies subtly intertwine, beyond time. It is a saga about collective memories, emotional heritage and invisible bonds between generations – a story about what we pass on, even when we think everything is lost. The film will be screened from 9:30 PM at the Roaba de Cultură in Herăstrău.
Also at the Roaba de Cultură, on June 20, the audience will be able to watch The Voice of Hind Rajab, directed by Kaouther Ben Hania. After an attack on the car in which her family was traveling, Hind, a five-year-old girl, remains the only survivor, and Red Crescent volunteers are making desperate efforts to reach her to save her.
The Les Films de Cannes caravan will also arrive in Cluj-Napoca on May 30, at Cinema Arta at 2:00 PM with the film Sound of Falling/ Alone Under the Sun, directed by Mischa Schilinski. The caravan program will be available soon on filmedefestival.ro.
Cultural project financed by the National Center of Cinematography.
The events are organized by the Cinemascop Association, Voodoo Films, with the support of the Green Revolution Association and Europa Cinemas and in partnership with the Roaba de Cultură.
