(L\u2019Or\u00e9al, IBM, Thomson, Elf\u2026) talk about power, hierarchy, control\u2026 gradually sketching out the image of a future world ruled by the financial sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From 1985 to 1987, he shot various sports adventure films for TV, then started directing documentary features that would all obtain a theatrical release : <\/span><b><i>Louvre City<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1990), <\/span><b><i>In The Land of The Deaf<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1992),<\/span> <b><i>Animals<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1995), <\/span><b><i>Every Little Thing<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1996), <\/span><b><i>Who Knows?<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1999), <\/span><b><i>Back to Normandy<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2006) or <\/span><b><i>N\u00e9nette <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2009), about a female orang-utan aged 40, in captivity for 37 years in a parisian zoo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2002, his film <\/span><b><i>To Be and To Have<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, about daily life in a &#8220;single class&#8221; school in a mountain village, screened as part of the Official Selection at the Cannes Festival, was a huge success in France and forty other countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b><i>La Maison de la Radio<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2013) is a journey into the heart of Radio France to discover what usually escapes our gaze : the mysteries and the wings of a media whose very matter, sound, remains invisible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With <\/span><b><i>Each and Every Moment<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De chaque instant, 2018<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), shot in a Nursing Training Institute, Nicolas Philibert pays homage to the nursing profession. And in his new film, <\/span><b><i>On the Adamant<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sur l\u2019Adamant, 2022<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), he takes us into psychiatry by filming in an atypical Parisian day center installed on the Seine, in a floating structure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 2002, more than one hundred thirty tributes and retrospectives of his films have been set up all over the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div her stage name Ma\u00efwenn, began acting at a very young age. Her first major role came at the age of 6 in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 meurtrier\/One Deadly Summer<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1983) directed by Jean Becker, alongside Isabelle Adjani. Ten years later, she had a role in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u00e9on<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1994) with Natalie Portman. The role that truly established her for a wider audience was her unforgettable appearance as Diva Plavalaguna in Luc Besson&#8217;s international hit <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Fifth Element<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1997). She continued with roles in audience-favorite films like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High Tension\/Haute Tension<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2003) and also in Claude Lelouch&#8217;s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Les Parisiens<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2004) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le Courage d&#8217;aimer <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2005).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2001, Ma\u00efwenn created and performed in a highly personal one-woman show, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le Pois Chiche\/The Chickpea<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This inspired her directorial debut, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pardonnez-moi\/Forgive Me<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2006), in which she also played the lead role. This was followed by <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le bal des actrices\/All About Actresses<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2009, a mockumentary in which Ma\u00efwenn portrays herself as a director, conducting a casting that includes Charlotte Rampling, Julie Depardieu, Karin Viard, and many other well-known figures in French cinema. Her film <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Polisse<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2011 earned her the Jury Prize at Cannes and tremendous success at the box office. In 2015, her film <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mon roi\/My King<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, on which she worked for 10 years, competed at Cannes. Her debut feature film, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Room 999<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, had its premiere in the official selection in 2023 at Cannes Classics. Additionally, she plays a role in the cast of Canadian director Monia Chokri&#8217;s film <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Nature of Love (Simple comme Sylvain)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which also premiered in 2023 at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2022, her short film <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le Cormoran<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was featured at the Telluride Festival, and in 2021, it garnered recognition at the San Sebastian and Clermont-Ferrand festivals. Currently, Lubna Playoust is in the process of preparing for her next feature film, scheduled to be filmed in Paris in Winter 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to her filmmaking pursuits, Lubna Playoust gained experience working with artists&#8217; collectives and in the fashion industry in Paris. She honed her filmmaking skills through workshops with notable figures such as Abbas Kiarostami, at the Film School in Cuba, and Lucrecia Martel, in Barcelona. Under their guidance, she directed the short films <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zulia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O\u00f9 vont les Canards en hiver?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, Lubna Playoust is the founder and curator of the mk2 Curiosity platform, which showcases rare cinematic treasures from around the world on a weekly basis.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-6 fusion_builder_column_1_4 1_4 fusion-flex-column\" She returned to Cannes in 2013 with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trois Mondes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, presented in the Un Certain Regard section, and later at Toronto. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La Belle Saison<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which won the Variety Piazza Grande Award at Locarno, was nominated in two categories at the 2016 C\u00e9sar Awards. With <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Un Amour Impossible<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, adapted from Christine Angot&#8217;s novel of the same name, Catherine Corsini received the SACD Award, as well as the Henri Langlois and Alice Guy awards. The film was nominated in four categories at the 2019 C\u00e9sar Awards. Three years later he was in competition at Cannes with<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> L\u2019amore molesto (Nasty Love)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, based on Elena Ferrante&#8217;s first book. He is again in Cannes in 1998 with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teatro di Guerra (Rehearsal for War)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and in 2004 with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u2019odore del sangue (The Scent of Blood)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, starring Fanny Ardant. It took him six years to realize one of his most ambitious projects, a long film on the Italian conspiracy in the 19th century, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Noi credevamo (We Believed)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which was presented in 2010 to great public success, followed by an even more considerable success, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Il giovane favoloso (Leopardi)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, on the poet Giacomo Leopardi played by Elio Germano, which will bring more than a million spectators to the cinema in Italy, as well as being much loved in France and other countries. The film about a utopian commune of the early twentieth century, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Capri-Revolution<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is from 2018. He then made two films intertwined with the world of Neapolitan theatre, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Il sindaco del rione Sanit\u00e0 (The Mayor of Rione Sanit\u00e0)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Eduardo De Filippo (2019), and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Qui rido io (The King of Laughter) <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with Toni Servillo in the title role. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Qui rido io<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(The King of Laughter) <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is in competition in Venice in 2021, and a few months later Martone is in competition in Cannes with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nostalgia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Over the years Martone, who constantly alternates between theater and cinema, has also made several short films, documentaries and films in other formats.
