Times are still uncertain and troubled, but over time, the festival has become a constant, a pole of stability in Romanian cultural life. Despite all the historical and social storms, despite all the restrictions, Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest has managed to turn each edition into an enthusiastic celebration of cinephilia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Year after year, without interruption, the festival has continued to bring the best of international cinema and stimulate national cinema. The tone is set at Cannes: throughout the past 12 editions, Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest has observed and popularised the trends launched by the world&#8217;s biggest film event, which are then spread and disputed around the world. It has encouraged Romanian actors and filmmakers to participate in this creative fervour and has brought them face to face with professionals in the field. All this, with energy, effort, and a bit of luck. Overcoming fears and superstitions of all kinds, we propose an edition that leaves aside the clich\u00e9s, convenience, propaganda, prejudices and fears established in the collective mind by Hollywood films.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With each edition, the festival has become more ambitious and more adventurous, because nothing is more powerful than the moving image. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I became interested in filmmaking because the image is very, very powerful when it comes to changing human behaviour,&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> said Swedish director Ruben \u00d6stlund, winner of the Palme d&#8217;Or in 2022 for yet another caustic, unclassifiable masterpiece, which will have its national premiere at Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Wild satire\u201d &#8211; that&#8217;s how one of Europe&#8217;s most original filmmakers describes his films. The enfant terrible of contemporary Swedish cinema, Ruben \u00d6stlund doesn&#8217;t want his audience to be comfortable. He proposes a cinema of discomfort that hilariously pierces bourgeois pretensions and dismantles the fragile structures of contemporary society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00d6stlund\u2019s characters are invariably vain, self-serving charlatans, deserving of the comeuppance that heads their way when a catastrophic life event demolishes their veneers of respectability. Men, especially, don\u2019t get it easy in \u00d6stlund\u2019s cosmic order, where the sharp end of his satirical stick is saved for skewering the feeble pomposity of the male ego,\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> writes Mubi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His brutally funny films gleefully and mischievously undermine Sweden&#8217;s self-image, which is doggedly guarded as a bastion of progressive liberalism. With subversive glee, \u00d6stlund tests the limits of his nation&#8217;s sociological ideals, often recording from afar, like a wildlife photographer who has stumbled, with amazement, upon an alien species.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b><i>Triangle of Sadness<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, distributed in Romania starting on November 11th by Independen\u021ba Film, winner of the supreme trophy at Cannes, the social hierarchy is overturned, revealing the distasteful relationship between power and beauty. A famous model couple, Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean), are invited on a luxury cruise for the very wealthy, led by a rakish sea captain (Woody Harrelson). What at first seems Instagrammable ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a deserted island and fighting for survival. This modern fable about rights and power dynamics is also a strong contender for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. In Cannes, <\/span><b><i>Triangle of Sadness<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was one of the most talked about films of the festival. \u00d6stlund here navigates new waters, delivering a provocative, grotesque and biting satire about the eternal class struggle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Utterly unhinged in the best way possible, guaranteed to elicit enough laughter to make your stomach ache, while also leaving you with plenty to think about afterwards\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211;\u00a0 Alysha Prasad for Room with a View.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b><i>Autumn Preview<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> section is back, richer than ever: Romanian films to be released in cinemas will premiere at <\/span><b>LFDC.13<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Also returning is the <\/span><b><i>Managing Talents<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> programmes, which focus on the needs of the acting community, <\/span><b><i>WiP &#8211; Work in Progress<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; an initiative that aims to showcase film projects still in the works by Romanian filmmakers to international film industry professionals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The screenings of this year&#8217;s most awarded Cannes films will take place at Cinema Elvire Popesco, Cinema Muzeul \u021a\u0103ranului and Cinemateca Eforie. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year&#8217;s edition will also pay tribute to an international auteur with a retrospective in their presence.
