Who are these people? What attributes and qualifications do or should they have? What have Romanian lecturers achieved? Who chooses them and based on what criteria? Do national screenplays need to be analyzed only by fellow countrymen? Two professional screenplay lecturers will try to provide answers to these questions, using their own experience: <strong><em>Jacques Akchoti<\/em><\/strong>, screenwriting and film direction professor at the prestigious French film school La Femis, involved in several international programmes for developing screenplays, among which EAVE, Sud Ecriture, DV8 films, Vision Cinema, Ekran, Interchange, \u00a0and <strong><em>Nicolas Livechi, <\/em><\/strong>professional cinema and television screenplay lecturer for <em>Why Not Productions<\/em> (France). The <em>How do you read a screenplay?<\/em> Workshop will take place on Friday, 25th October, at Elvire Popesco Cinema.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, <em>Les Films de Cannes\u00a0\u00e0\u00a0Bucarest <\/em><em>organizes on the 24th, 25th and 26th October the fourth edition of Managing Talents, the programme aiming to facilitate the encounter between Romanian actors and casting agents from abroad. This year\u2019s edition puts forth a masterclass by Manuel Puro, casting agent and a professionist <\/em><em>who worked alongside Guillermo del Toro, Cate Blanchett or Rachel Weisz, as well as an open casting session for roles in the film <\/em><em>Tat\u0103l mut<\/em><em>\u0103 mun\u021bii \u2013 Father moves mountains, <\/em><em>directed by Daniel Sandu, a Mobra Film prodction.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>After three editions of <\/em><em>Managing Talents<\/em><em> during which Romanian actors complained about not finding out when film castings take place, Cinemascop Association decided to organize an open casting session for a real project. All interested actors can send, between 8th and 15th October, a <\/em><em>self tape<\/em><em> with a casting audition for the film role, and the shortlisted actors for the final phase will be announced at the ending ceremony of <\/em><em>Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest, <\/em><em>on 27th October.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The casting text (for both feminine and masculine roles, for actors aged 18 through 35 and over 35), the programme rules, as well as further details on the film can be found on filmedefestival.com, under the section <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2019\/managing-talents\/\"><em>Managing Talents<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The casting sessions will be held in Romanian, with the support of casting director Floriela Grapini. Manuel Puro\u2019s masterclass along with the discussions he will have with the actors will be in English.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop takes place at PRO Cinema and will start on Thursday, 24th October, 10:30am, with a working meeting with the ones who signed up for the programme.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><em>\u201eHow to make an effective self-tape\u201d<\/em><\/strong> masterclass, with Manuel Puro, will take place on Friday, 25th October, starting 10:30am; at the end, the participants will be able to dialogue with the casting agent. On the same day, after the conference, the PRO Cinema foyer will turn into a studio. Actors who will not have managed to send a casting audition previously will be able to record self-tapes right on the spot, using what they\u2019ve learned at the conference.<\/p>\n<p>On the third day of Managing Talents, Saturday, 26<sup>th<\/sup> October, starting 10:30am, a new casting session will take place, based on the sent self-tapes, taking into account the ones created during the laboratory the previous day.<\/p>\n<p>Professional actors, as well as film and acting students and nonprofessional actors, are all eligible for the casting. <em>Managing Talents<\/em> is free of admission, and is open to both participants and the public.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manuel Puro<\/strong> has over 20 years of casting experience, having worked for feature films, TV series, video games, commercials and short films, He started his career in 1995 as casting assistant and has worked with all the great filmmakers, including Guillermo del Toro, Nicolas Roeg or Richard Attenborough. In 2000, he started working for the ICM casting agency, taking care of celebrities like Rachel Weisz, Cate Blanchett, Michael Caine, Hugh Grant, Ben Kingsley or Julie Christie.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, he provided mentoring sessions for organisations and institutions such as National Film and Television School, iFeatures and Directors Guild of Great Britain, and has held casting workshops all over the world. In 2017, he created The Acting Habit, an online innovative platform, where actors all around the world can share their work, receiving feedback in turn, do creative experiments and gain new technical abilities.<\/p>\n<p><em>Managing Talents<\/em> is presented by Apa Nova.<\/p>\n<p>The complete program of the tenth edition of <em>Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest<\/em> is available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2019\/program\/\">site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At <strong>PRO Cinema, Elvire Popesco Cinema, Peasant Museum Cinema, Romanian National Museum of Art \u2013 Auditorium Hall<\/strong>, the tickets prces are 15 lei for tickets purchased by 18thOctober and 20 lei fro tickets purchased during the festival (18th \u2013 27th October 2019).
