This year’s edition puts forth a masterclass by Manuel Puro, casting agent and a professionist who worked alongside Guillermo del Toro, Cate Blanchett or Rachel Weisz, as well as an open casting session for roles in the film Tatăl mută munții – Father moves mountains, directed by Daniel Sandu, a Mobra Film production.

Manuel Puro has over 20 years of casting experience, having worked for feature films, TV series, video games, commercials and short films, He started his career in 1995 as casting assistant and has worked with all the great filmmakers, including Guillermo del Toro, Nicolas Roeg or Richard Attenborough. In 2000, he started working for the ICM casting agency, taking care of celebrities like Rachel Weisz, Cate Blanchett, Michael Caine, Hugh Grant, Ben Kingsley or Julie Christie.

Over the years, he provided mentoring sessions for organisations and institutions such as National Film and Television School, iFeatures and Directors Guild of Great Britain, and has held casting workshops all over the world. In 2017, he created The Acting Habit, an online innovative platform, where actors all around the world can share their work, receiving feedback in turn, do creative experiments and gain new technical abilities.

After three editions of Managing Talents during which Romanian actors complained about not finding out when film castings take place, Cinemascop Association decided to organize an open casting session for a real project. All interested actors can send, between 8th and 15th October, a self tape with a casting audition for the film role, and the shortlisted actors for the final phase will be announced at the ending ceremony of Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest, on 27th October.

The casting text (for both feminine and masculine roles, for actors aged 18 through 35 and over 35), the programme rules, as well as further details on the film can be found on, under the section Managing Talents.

The casting sessions will be held in Romanian, with the support of casting director Floriela Grapini. Manuel Puro’s masterclass along with the discussions he will have with the actors will be in English.

The workshop takes place at PRO Cinema and will start on Thursday, 24th October, 10:30am, with a working meeting with the ones who signed up for the programme.

The „How to make an effective self-tape” masterclass, with Manuel Puro, will take place on Friday, 25th October, starting 10:30am; at the end, the participants will be able to dialogue with the casting agent. On the same day, after the conference, the PRO Cinema foyer will turn into a studio. Actors who will not have managed to send a casting audition previously will be able to record self-tapes right on the spot, using what they’ve learned at the conference.

On the third day of Managing Talents, Saturday, 26th October, starting 10:30am, a new casting session will take place, based on the sent self-tapes, taking into account the ones created during the laboratory the previous day.

Professional actors, as well as film and acting students and nonprofessional actors, are all eligible for the casting. Managing Talents is free of admission, and is open to both participants and the public.
