The film is <strong>Leto<\/strong>, directed by the Russian Kirill Serebrennikov. His seat in the imposing Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Lumi\u00e8re was empty &#8211; but even so, at the end of the show, the audience applauded for minutes in a row.<\/p>\n<p>Serebrennikov could not be present at the premiere, despite the repeated insistence of Cannes delegates and French diplomacy.<\/p>\n<p>Kirill Serebrennikov, considered to be one of Russia&#8217;s most talented theater and film directors, was remarked in 2008 with the award-winning Yuri&#8217;s Day in Locarno. In 2012, he was selected for competition in Venice with <em>Betrayal.<\/em> In 2016, <em>(M)ucenic<\/em> was selected in the competition <em>Un Certain Regard<\/em> at Cannes festival and Leto was showed in this year&#8217;s main competition of the festival. As a theater director, Serebrenikov was awarded the Europa Prize and the Daniil Harms Prize, for <em>Nureev <\/em>Ballet in 2017, the Golden Mask Award for the <em>Chaadsky<\/em> Opera Performance and also the prize \u201e<em>Benois de la danse<\/em>\u201d, in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Kirill Serebrennikov was detained in St. Petersburg in August 2017, during his filming for Leto and accused of misappropriation &#8211; accusations qualified by the director as &#8220;absurd and schizophrenic.&#8221; The film <strong>Leto<\/strong> was edited during his house arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Serebrennikov&#8217;s arrest triggered a revolt in the world of artistic world, as his name is inscribed on a valuable work, memorable shows and high quality films. In Russia, the artists formed a coalition to sustain the realization of the director &#8211; Natalia Soljeni\u021b\u00eena, President of Soljeni\u021b\u00een; Foundation, Alexandr Kaliaghin, President of the Theatre Union In Russia; Vladimir Urin, General Director of Bolshoi Theatre; Lev Dodin \u2013 Director of Mal\u00eei Theatre in St. Petersburg; the directors Fiodor Bondarciuk or Aleksei Gherman.<\/p>\n<p>Mihail Bar\u00ee\u0219nikov sent a letter of support. The famous ballet dancer and choreographer wrote: <em>\u201eResist, dear Kirill. You know that officials, investigators, prosecutors and their superiors are deprived of all grace. Their only talent is that of the executioner who expresses himself on the background of unlimited power and individual manic obscurantism &#8220;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Three days after Serebrennikov&#8217;s arrest, over ten thousand theater and film lovers from all over the world joined the petition demanding his release, among them Cate Blanchett, Danis Tanovic, Maren Ade, and Volker Schl\u00f6ndorff.<\/p>\n<p>Serebrennikov pays for the tenacity with which he expresses his political opinions &#8211; both in art and in public life, although he always encounters various types of censorship. When he tried to show a documentary about Pussy Riot at Gogol Center, the projection was banned by the Ministry of Culture. &#8220;We return to the most pathetic Soviet practices,&#8221; he said publicly, in 2016, in a discussion about censorship of the artists in Russia.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, <em>Les Films de Cannes <\/em>scheduled <strong>Leto <\/strong>at 20:15 at Cinema PRO and invites artists and theater and film lovers from Romania to support the release of Kirill Serebrennikov and the freedom of expression of artists through a message and a group photo.<\/p>\n<p>All viewers wishing to support the release of the Russian theater and film director are invited to come to the cinema with the message <strong>FREE KIRIL SEREBRENIKOV<\/strong> and to be part of the group photo to join the artists who demand that the director\u2019s unconditional bail \u2013 a joint initiative of the festival <em>Les Films de Cannes <\/em><em>\u00e0<\/em><em> Bucharest<\/em> and <em>The national Theatre Festival.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The shows and events at Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest continue until October 28 and the film that will close the festival is <strong><em>Sunset<\/em><\/strong>, by L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Nemes (<em>Son of Saul<\/em> &#8211; Grand Prix award at Cannes Festival and Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, 2016). The film premiered this autumn in the main competition of the Venice Festival, where it received the FIPRESCI prize. In the film we find the Romanian actor Vlad Ivanov, playing the role of the businessman Oszk\u00e1r Brill. <strong><em>Sunset<\/em><\/strong> is scheduled on Sunday, October the 28th, after the closing Gala that will start at 18:00 at Cinema PRO.<\/p>\n<p>The tickets and reservations, including the shows with free entry are available online on <em><a href=\"https:\/\/eventbook.ro\/program\/festivalul-filmelor-de-la-cannes\">Eventbook.ro<\/a><\/em> and at the ticket offices in each movie theater.
