The second edition of\u00a0Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Arad\u00a0<\/strong>will take place from 19 to 21 October<\/strong> at Cinema Arta<\/strong>. The most awarded films from the 2018 edition of the Cannes festival will be premiered in Arad at the festival.<\/p>\n

Shoplifters<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>brought director Kore-eda Hirokazu the first Palme d’Or from his career at his seventh participation in the official Cannes selection. After the Jury Prize received in 2013 for\u00a0Like Father, Like Son<\/em>, Kore-eda received this year’s ultimate recognition for a warm and moving film about a family of small thieves who find an abandoned little girl and decide to raise her as if she were their own child.<\/p>\n

The runner-up of this year’s official competition was the veteran Spike Lee\u2019s thriller\u00a0BlacKkKlansman<\/em><\/strong>, to whose director the jury awarded the Grand Prix. The film follows the tendency of the last years to bring to light stories that reveal racial or gender-based historical and racial disparities such as Steve McQueen\u2019s\u00a012 Years a Slave<\/em>\u00a0or Quentin Tarantino’s\u00a0Django Unchained<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The action of Spike Lee’s film is taking place during the infamous Ku Klux Klan period, when, under the protection of anonymity, racist whites have brought numerous attacks, tortures, and murders on the US black population. Some of these aggressions have never been brought to justice.<\/p>\n

Prior to announcing the official record, the favorite of the betting houses to win the Palme d’Or was Korean Lee Chang-Dong\u2019s\u00a0Burning<\/em>.<\/strong> Eventually,\u00a0the title was awarded the Best Film Award in the official competition by the FIPRESCI film critics present at Cannes. FIPRESCI grants a prize each year for the best film in each section of the festival. Inspired by a short story by Haruki Murakami,\u00a0Burnin<\/em><\/strong>g<\/em>\u00a0is a romantic thriller in which an aspiring writer and a rich guy fight over the love of the same girl.<\/p>\n

In the three days, seven films will be projected for the first time in Arad. The full program of the second edition of\u00a0Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Arad\u00a0<\/strong>can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The ticket price will be 12 lei, 8 lei discount, respectively. The subscriptions will be, as in the previous edition of 50 lei and the one with a reduction of 30 lei.<\/p>\n

Tickets and subscriptions are available in advance at Cafeneaua Literar\u0103 Joy\u2019s , and, during the festival, from Cinema Arta. The price of a ticket is 12 lei, or discounted at 8 lei for pupils, students and retirees. A subscription allowing access to all 7 screenings costs 50 lei, or 30 lei discount.<\/p>\n
