The film, directed by Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n, was shot on 65 mm in 4K format and mixed on Dolby Atmos, and it is at the request of the director for the film to be shown in this format only. As such, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2018\/en\/roma\/\"><strong><em>Roma<\/em><\/strong><\/a> will be shown on the most well-equipped screen in Romania, the <strong>Grand Ultra<\/strong> at the <strong>Grand Cinema &amp; More in Baneasa Shopping City.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2018\/en\/roma\/\"><strong><em>Roma<\/em><\/strong><\/a> marks Cuar\u00f3n\u2019s Mexican homecoming, and may be his most personal film yet, having been inspired by the women from his childhood. The film will not be shown on Romania\u2019s silver screens. <strong>The screening at the festival will be the only one of its kind, offered with the approval of the director and producers, as a sign of esteem for <em>Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201eAn immersive bath in some of the most luxuriantly beautiful black-and-white images you\u2019ve ever seen,\u201c <\/em>wrote <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> in a review following its Venice premiere.<\/p>\n<p>A versatile filmmaker, with a career spanning 27 years in which he has managed to direct both <em>art-house<\/em> and <em>blockbuster<\/em> films, Cuar\u00f3n has won more 100 awards at festivals all over the world, with his 2013 Gravity (starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney) winning two awards at the Oscars. The Best Director award he won that year was the first to ever be handed to a Mexican director in the history of the Academy Awards. His first nomation at the Oscars was, however, announced in 2001 for <strong><em>Y Tu Mam\u00e1 Tambi\u00e9n<\/em><\/strong>, which propelled actors Diego Luna and Gael Garc\u00eda Bernal into the international spotlight, and brought Cuar\u00f3n to Hollywood.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2018\/en\/roma\/\"><em><strong>Roma<\/strong><\/em><\/a> chronicles a year in the life of a middle-class family in Mexico City in the early 1970s. Cuar\u00f3n presents an ode to the matriarchy that encompassed his childhood and he does so by filming in the locations where these events actually took place, borrowing furniture and objects from his relatives (70% of the furniture featured in the film belong to the director\u2019s family, as reported in an interview <em>with Vanity Fair<\/em>), and casting actors that looked as much alike as their real counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the <em>Golden Lion<\/em>, the film was also awarded with the <strong>SIGNIS Ecumenical Prize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In Venice, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2018\/en\/roma\/\"><strong><em>Roma<\/em><\/strong><\/a> vied for the grand prize with films like <strong><em>The Ballad of Buster Scruggs<\/em><\/strong>, the latest film by the Coen Brothers, <strong><em>First Man<\/em><\/strong>, by Damien Chazelle, <strong><em>Suspiria<\/em><\/strong>, the remake by Luca Guadagnino, and <strong><em>Peterloo,<\/em><\/strong> by Mike Leigh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201e<em>This is a film that steals in and snatches your heart\u201c <\/em>(<em>The Telegraph<\/em>). <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2018\/en\/shoplifters\/\"><strong><em>Shoplifters<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, the most recent film by South Korean director Hirokazu Kore-eda, winner of this year\u2019s <em>Palme d\u2019Or<\/em>, is the story of a family of petty thieves who find an abandoned little girl and decide to raise her as if she were their own. \u201e<em>Who better than Kore-eda, a director who whispers instead of shouts, is able to capture contradictions and issues though such a subtle, unforced style of storytelling?,\u201c <\/em>writes <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> about the director who debuted in Cannes for the seventh time. <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2018\/en\/shoplifters\/\"><strong><em>Shoplifters<\/em><\/strong><\/a> will be released on the 26th of October, distributed by Independenta Film.<\/p>\n<p>On the fluid border between reality and fiction,<a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2018\/en\/touch-me-not\/\"> <strong><em>Touch Me Not<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, Adina Pintilie\u2019s debut feature and winner of the <em>Golden Bear<\/em> and <em>Best Debut<\/em> in Berlin, speaks of the need for human contact and fear of intimacy, about how we can love without losing ourselves. Laura, Tomas, and Christian, enter into a therapeutic adventure of battling the instinct for self-defense, and confronting taboos. <em>The <\/em><em>Hollywood Reporter<\/em> called the film: \u201e<em> A relentlessly immersive tour de force<\/em>. <em>An eye-opening look at human sexuality. In Romania, the film will be released in cinemas at the beginning of 2019.
