250 actors attend the second edition of Managing Talents workshop<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

A weekend full of premiers, guests and special events awaits film lovers at the 8th<\/sup> edition of Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest. Managing Talents<\/strong><\/a> workshop, taking place on Saturday, October 21st<\/sup> at Cinema PRO, starting 11.00, will bring to Bucharest some of the most active casting directors of the moment: Frank Moiselle<\/strong>\u00a0(Ireland),\u00a0Vicki Thomson<\/strong>\u00a0(Great Britain),\u00a0Nathalie Cheron<\/strong>\u00a0(France),\u00a0Elizaveta Shmakova<\/strong>\u00a0(Russia),\u00a0Victor Jenkins<\/strong>\u00a0(Great Britain) and\u00a0Richard Cook<\/strong>\u00a0(Ireland).\u00a0 Tickets for Saturday\u2019s panel talks are still available on Eventbook.ro<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tonight, Christian Berger<\/strong>, director of photography for Happy End<\/em><\/strong><\/a> directed by Michael Haneke, who has worked with the director on some of his previous films like The White Ribbon<\/em><\/strong> or Cach\u00e9<\/em><\/strong>, will introduce the film at Cinema PRO, starting 20.15<\/strong>. Mr. Berger is also in Bucharest for the Masterclass organized by the Romanian Society of Cinematographers this weekend. \u00a0Details are available on Facebook.com\/rscmasterclass. This very evening too, at Cinema Elvire Popesco, director Valeska Grisebach<\/strong> will be talking to the audience via Skype, for the screening of Western<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Sunday\u00a0October<\/strong> 22nd<\/sup><\/strong>, at the festival\u2019s closing evening, Italian director Antonio Piazza<\/strong><\/a>, will have a q&a session at Cinema PRO for the screening of\u00a0Sicilian Ghost Story<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, that was shown this year for the opening of Semaine de la Critique section in Cannes, and at Cinema Elvire Popesco, cinematographer\u00a0Alexander Nanau<\/strong>\u00a0will attend the screening of the documentary Nothingwood<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, by Sonia Kronlund, shown in Quinzaine des R\u00e9alisateurs.<\/p>\n

The second edition of Managing Talents workshop seeks to facilitate meetings between Romanian actors and renowned casting directors from around the world as well as with Romanian and foreign actors with remarkable international careers. The event will comprise a series of talks and meetings tackling various issues, where attendees will have the opportunity of discussing with actors that have developed international careers, Romanian directors and renowned casting directors. In the first panel, Actori pentru actori<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Actors for Actors<\/em><\/strong>), Valentina Lodovini<\/strong>\u00a0(award winning actress for her role as\u00a0 Maria in the film\u00a0Benvenuti al sud<\/em>, directed by Luca Miniero),\u00a0Dylan Smith<\/strong>\u00a0(known for his parts in 300, Total Recall, The Mummy<\/em>) and\u00a0Vlad Ivanov<\/strong>\u00a0(one of the most popular Romanian actors of the moment, known for his role in 4 luni, 3 s\u0103pt\u0103m\u00e2ni \u015fi 2 zile<\/em>\u00a0\/ 4 months, 3 weeks, and 2 days <\/em>\u2013 d. Cristian Mungiu,\u00a0Poli\u0163ist, adjectiv<\/em>\u00a0\/ Police, adjective<\/em> \u2013 d. Corneliu Porumboiu,\u00a0Pozi\u0163ia copilului\u00a0\/ Child\u2019s Pose <\/em>\u2013 d. C\u0103lin Peter Netzer and\u00a0C\u00e2ini \/ Dogs<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 d. Bogdan Miric\u0103) will converse with attendees over the opportunities, specificities and conditionalities of an international acting career. In the second half of the event, directors Cristian Mungiu and Radu Muntean will be talking about directors\u2019 expectations following\u00a0 the casting meeting, and at the end, in the panel Listening to casting directors<\/em><\/strong>, experienced casting directors will be discussing about\u00a0self-tapes, strategies, opportunities and preparation for international castings.<\/p>\n

On the last night of the festival, the audience will have the opportunity of talking to director Antonio Piazza<\/strong><\/a>, who will be attending the screening of\u00a0Sicilian Ghost Story<\/a>,<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0made together with Fabio Grassadonia with whom he\u2019s worked on all his films so far. The two had a strong start in 2020 with Rita<\/em><\/strong>, one of the Italian short films that has won a significant number of awards \u2013 over 40 – in recent years, and was selected in about one hundred festivals. Salvo<\/em><\/strong>, their feature film debut launched in 2013 won the Grand Prix and the award R\u00e9v\u00e9lation France 4 in Cannes\u2019s Semaine de la Critique. On Sicilian Ghost Story<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>the two Italian directors\u2019 latest film, The Hollywood Reporter\u00a0writes : \u2018\u2019<\/em>Superb technical work transforms cruel reality into a fable with many ramifications(\u2026) A recurring image is the ruins of a magnificent Greek temple that towers above the sea, like the longing for a return of the gods who once were said to populate the island.\u2019\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n

On Sunday, at 20.30, at Cinema Elvire Popesco, director\u00a0Alexander Nanau<\/strong>\u00a0(Toto \u0219i surorile lui \/ Toto and His Sisters<\/em>, 2014) will be at the premiere of Nothingwood<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, this time in his role of director of photography for the documentary directed by Sonia Kronlund about Salim Shaheen, the most prolific and well known actor-director-producer from Afghanistan. Salim Shaheen\u2019s trip around Kabul to show some of his over 110 films and to shoot his next one is a unique occasion to meet this cinema aficionado and relentless maker of Z movies, in a country that\u2019s been at war for over 30 years now.\u00a0\u00a0 Nothingwood<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/a>tells the story of a life dedicated to fulfilling a childhood dream.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, October<\/strong> 21st<\/sup><\/strong>, at Cinema PRO, film lovers will have the opportunity of watching in a single day this year\u2019s winners of the three most prestigious awards: the Golden Bear (On Body and Soul<\/em><\/strong><\/a>), Palm d\u2019Or (The Square<\/em><\/strong><\/a>) and the Golden Lyon (The Shape of Water<\/em><\/strong><\/a>). Ziua de Aur<\/strong> (Golden Day<\/strong>) will expand this year as the festival will also show at Cinema Elvira Popesco the winner of the Golden Leopard, Mrs Fang<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Preview<\/strong> section continues at Cinema Muzeul \u021a\u0103ranului, with screenings of the latest Romanian films, getting ready for their participation at international festivals. Thus the film Aniversarea<\/a>\/Anniversary<\/em><\/strong>, the seventh feature film in the work of director Dan Chi\u0219u, to be presented in the official selection in Warsaw, will be shown on Friday, October<\/strong> 20th<\/sup><\/strong>. On Saturday, October<\/strong> 21st<\/sup><\/strong> Romanian film lovers will have the opportunity of watching two other previews \u2013 Pororoca<\/em><\/strong> <\/a>(d. Constantin Popescu, the critics\u2019 favourite at San Sebastian, where it was awarded the Prize for Best Actor – Bogdan Dumitrache) and Meda sau Partea nu prea fericit\u0103 a lucrurilor<\/em><\/strong>\/ Meda or the Not So Bright Side of Things<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (d. Emanuel P\u00e2rvu, at Sarajevo IFF the film received the Best Director and the Best Actor awards). The weekend will end with the long-awaited premiere of Solda\u021bii. Poveste din Ferentari <\/em><\/strong>\/ Soldiers. Story from Ferentari<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, the feature film debut of director and actress of Serbian origins Ivana Mladenovic. Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest action to support projects developed by NGOs in Romania by donating the proceeds of special screenings is continuing this weekend. Thus on Saturday, \u00a0October 21st<\/sup><\/strong>, at 15.00<\/strong>, Cinema Muzeul \u021a\u0103ranului Rom\u00e2n will host a special screening of Amintiri din Epoca de Aur, partea 1\/<\/em><\/strong> Tales from the Golden Age, part 1<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, the proceeds from which will go to the ActivRandom<\/strong> association for the support of people with refugee status. Several thousand refugees in Romania, including those who have contributed to the translation into Arabic language of the film\u2019s dialogues, will be attending the event. The proceeds from the screening of\u00a0Moartea domnului L\u0103z\u0103rescu\/<\/strong><\/em> The Death of Mr. Lazarescu<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/a>to take place on Sunday 17.30<\/strong>, at Cinema Muzeul \u021a\u0103ranului, will go to the\u00a0Association D\u0103ruie\u0219te via\u021b\u0103<\/strong>, for the project of the first integrated oncology and radiotherapy unit at the Marie Curie Children\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n

After Cluj-Napoca and Bra\u0219ov, another three special editions of the festival will be happening in several cities around the country: from October 20th<\/sup> to 22nd<\/sup> <\/strong>in Timi\u0219oara <\/strong>(Banatul Philarmonic),\u00a0Arad<\/strong>\u00a0(Cinema ARTA) and\u00a0Ia\u0219i<\/strong>\u00a0(Ia\u0219i Atheneum), Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Suceava will take place from November \u00a010th<\/sup> \u00a0to 12th<\/sup> <\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0Suceava<\/strong>\u00a0(Cinema Modern).<\/p>\n
