The drama inspired by Act-Up Paris activists\u2019 actions to fight the general disregard of AIDS victims in the 90\u2019s France has already been sold in almost 40 countries and will be shown for the first time in Romania, tonight starting 20.00, with the director attending the screening and having a Q&amp;A at the end. The film\u2019s leading character, actor <strong>Nahuel P\u00e9rez Biscayart<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>is also expected at the festival both in Bucharest, where he will be attending the film\u2019s screening on Thursday, October 19, at 16.30, at Cinema Elvire Popesco, and in Ia\u0219i, where he will open the second edition of Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Iasi, on October 20.<\/p>\n<p>Another unmissable encounter is scheduled on<strong> Tuesday, October 17<\/strong>, at 20.30, at Cinema PRO, this time with Lynne Ramsay, winner of the Cannes Best Screenplay award for <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/you-were-never-really-here\/\"><strong><em>You Were Never Really Here<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. The film also brought Joaquin Phoenix the Best Actor award, for his part as an incommunicative and brutal former FBI agent, attempting to rescue Nina (Ekaterina Samsonov), the teenage girl of a politician, who had apparently been kidnapped. Born in Glasgow,\u00a0<strong>Lynne Ramsay<\/strong>\u00a0is considered one of the boldest British directors in contemporary independent cinema. Cannes Festival acknowledged her talent from the very beginning. In 1996, she won the Jury Prize for the graduation short film\u00a0<strong><em>Small Deaths<\/em><\/strong>, and two years later she received the same distinction for her third short film, <strong><em>Gasman<\/em><\/strong>. In 2000, her feature film debut\u00a0<strong><em>Ratcacher<\/em><\/strong> received the Jury\u2019s Special Mention in Cannes\u2019s Un Certain Regard. And in 2011, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/need-talk-kevin\/\"><strong><em>We Need to Talk About Kevin<\/em><\/strong><\/a> was the only British production in the Palme d\u2019Or competition.<\/p>\n<p>This week\u2019s surprise at Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest is the<strong> additional screening of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/loveless\/\"><em>Loveless<\/em><\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Jury Prize, Cannes 2017), to be held on <strong>Wednesday October 18, at 21.00, at cinema Union, with director\u00a0Andrey Zvyagintsev attending<\/strong>. The first two screenings of the film were\u00a0<em>sold-out<\/em>. Zvyagintsev confirmed his participation to the festival\u2019s eigth edition and will talk with the audience following the screening on October 18.<\/p>\n<p>Andrey Zvyagintsev started directing in 2000, and launched three years later his first feature film,\u00a0<strong><em>The Return<\/em><\/strong>, that quickly became that year\u2019s sensation, winning the Golden Lyon in Venice. The Russian director is no stranger to Cannes, where his films have always received awards \u2013\u00a0<strong><em>The Banishment<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(2007, Best Actor award &#8211;\u00a0Konstantin Lavronenko),\u00a0<strong><em>Elena<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(2011, Special Jury Prize in Un Certain Regard section) and\u00a0<strong><em>Leviathan<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(2014, Best Screenplay Award).<\/p>\n<p>And let\u2019s not forget about French director\u2019s <strong>Laurent Cantet <\/strong>presence in Bucharest. <strong>Laurent Cantet<\/strong>, to whom the festival has dedicated a focus, will be arriving in Romania on <strong>October 18<\/strong> and will introduce his film <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/retour-a-ithaque\/\">Retour \u00e0 Ithaque<\/a> (Return to Ithaca)<\/em><\/strong>, that will be preceded by a screening of his short film <em>Tous \u00e0 la manif<\/em>, recipient of the Jean Vigo award in 1994. On <strong>October 19 <\/strong>he will be attending the premiere of his latest film, <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/the-workshop\/\">L\u2019Atelier<\/a> (The Workshop)<\/em><\/strong>, competing in Cannes\u2019s Un Certain Regard this year, and will answer filmgoers\u2019 questions in a <em>debate moderated by Boglarka Nagy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest<\/strong>\u00a0kicked off with over 5000 viewers at the screenings held over the first weekend and with celebrated Hungarian director <strong>B\u00e9la Tarr<\/strong> being present both in Bucharest and in Cluj<strong>. <\/strong>\u00a0This year too the festival will continue having in Bucharest and in the other cities special guests \u2013 directors and actors \u2013 to converse with Romanian audiences after the screenings, in intense talks about films, cinema or just about life.<\/p>\n<p>Every evening, after the screenings, cinephiles are expected for a glass of wine at <strong>Apollo 111<\/strong> (Strada Actor Ion Brezoianu, nr. 23-25) to talk about the films of the day and about those following.<br \/>\n<strong>Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest<\/strong>\u00a0is taking place this year at\u00a0<strong>Cinema PRO, Cinema Elvire Popesco, Cinema Muzeul \u021a\u0103ranului<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Cinemateca Eforie<\/strong>.\u00a0Tickets for the eighth edition of Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest are on sale at <a href=\"https:\/\/eventbook.ro\/program\/festivalul-filmelor-de-la-cannes\">Eventbook.ro<\/a> and in the Eventbook network.
