In 1983 he was admitted to the IDHEC school for cinema (which in the meantime became La Femis), where he met <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/laurent-cantet\/\">Laurent Cantet<\/a>, with whom he\u2019s been working as a screenwriter and film editor since the end of the \u201990s. They worked together for <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/lemploi-du-temps\/\"><strong><em>L\u2019Emploi du temps<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong><em> (Time Out),\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/entre-les-murs\/\"><strong><em>Entre les murs<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong><em> (The Class), Foxfire \u2013 Confessions d\u2019un gang de fille (Foxfire)<\/em><\/strong>, and most recently <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/latelier\/\"><strong><em>L\u2019Atelier<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (<strong><em>The Workshop<\/em><\/strong>), shown this year in Cannes\u2019s Un Certain Regard.<\/p>\n<p>His 2004 feature film debut <strong><em>Les Revenants<\/em><\/strong> is a dystopia based on the idea that one day the death rise up unscathed from their graves and come back in millions amongst the living. The film, selected in Venice, then inspired the Canal+ TV series\u00a0<strong><em>Eastern Boys<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(2013),<em> \u201ca masterful story about a great invasion and dispossession<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em>, in the words of T\u00e9l\u00e9rama magazine. The film won the Orizzonti section award in Venice and received two C\u00e9sar nominations for Best Film and Best Director.<\/p>\n<p>He then authored the script for\u00a0<strong><em>Plan\u00e9tarium (Planetarium)<\/em><\/strong> by Rebecca Zlotowski (2016), a drama about the collective blindness at the end of the \u201830s.
