Over 10,000 tickets were already sold in advance on <a href=\"https:\/\/eventbook.ro\/program\/festivalul-filmelor-de-la-cannes\">Eventbook.ro<\/a> before the start of the festival. <strong>Les Films de Cannes <\/strong><strong>\u00e0 Bucarest<\/strong> this year takes place at <strong>CinemaPRO<\/strong>,<strong> Cinema Elvire Popesco<\/strong>, the <strong>Peasant\u2019s Museum Cinema <\/strong>(Cinema Muzeul \u021a\u0103ranului), and <strong>Cinema Eforie<\/strong>. The program can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/\">www.filmedefestival.ro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Bucharest, winning films of the Palme d\u2019Or are scheduled to open the festival in the 4 theatres. After the <strong><em>opening gala<\/em><\/strong>, which begins at <strong>19:00 o\u2019clock<\/strong> at the <strong>Peasant\u2019s Museum Cinema<\/strong>, the film <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/4-luni-3-saptamani-si-2-zile\/\"><strong><em>4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days<\/em><\/strong><\/a> will be screened at <strong>20:30<\/strong> with the cast in attendance. Also at <strong>20:30<\/strong>, this year\u2019s winner of the Palme d\u2019Or, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/the-square\/\"><strong><em>The Square<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, will be shown at <strong>CinemaPRO<\/strong>, followed by a question and answer session with the Swedish director <strong>Ruben <\/strong><strong>\u00d6stlund<\/strong> via Skype. Tickets for this evening\u2019s screening of the Swedish non-conformist comedy already sold out on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/entre-les-murs\/\"><strong><em>Entre les murs<\/em><\/strong><\/a> shows at <strong>Cinema Elvira Popesco<\/strong>, the Palme d\u2019Or winner for the French director <strong>Laurent Cantet<\/strong>, one of the two special guests of the festival, to whom there is also a dedicated <strong><em>retrospective<\/em><\/strong>. <strong>Laurent Cantet<\/strong> will arrive in Romania on<strong> October 18<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong> and introduce the film <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/retour-a-ithaque\/\"><strong><em>Retour <\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/retour-a-ithaque\/\">\u00e0 Ithaque<\/a> (Return to Ithaca)<\/em><\/strong>, which will be preceded by the screening of his short film, <em>Tous <\/em><em>\u00e0 la manif<\/em>, for which he received the Prix Jean Vigo in 1994. On <strong>October 19<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong>, he will participate in the premiere of his most recent film, <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/the-workshop\/\">L\u2019Atelier<\/a> (The Workshop)<\/em><\/strong>, included this year in the Cannes Un Certain Regard competition and, after the film, will be taking questions from the audience in a discussion moderated by <em>Boglarka Nagy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth Palme d\u2019Or screened on Friday is <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/pelle-the-conqueror\/\"><strong><em>Pelle the Conqueror<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (1987), directed by Bille August. The filmmaker has twice claimed the trophy at Cannes and became the first Palme d\u2019Or winner to decide to make a film for the Chinese market. The film is called <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/the-chinese-widow\/\"><strong><em>The Chinese Widow<\/em><\/strong><\/a> and can be seen <strong>Sunday<\/strong> at <strong>17:30<\/strong> at the <strong>Peasant\u2019s Museum Cinema<\/strong> as part of the <strong>CHINA FOCUS<\/strong> of this edition of the festival.<\/p>\n<p>To open the <strong>CHINA FOCUS<\/strong>, the short film <strong><em>A Gentle Night<\/em><\/strong> by Qiu Yang (Palme d\u2019Or, Cannes 2017) will be screened. The screening will take place at <strong>18:00<\/strong> on <strong>Saturday<\/strong> at the <strong>Peasant\u2019s Museum Cinema<\/strong>, and will be introduced by the film critic <strong>Maggie Lee<\/strong> (Variety) with the director <strong>Qiu Yang<\/strong> in attendance via Skype. The film <strong><em>A Gentle Night<\/em><\/strong> will be followed by the feature length <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/mystery\/\"><strong><em>Mystery<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Ye Lou, (Un Certain Regard, Cannes 2012). In the <strong>CHINA FOCUS<\/strong> section, there will also be <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/not-madame-bovary\/\"><strong><em>I Am Not Madame Bovary<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, the film by Xiaogang Feng, who had his world premiere at Cannes and won several festival awards from around the world. The film <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/angels-wear-white\/\"><strong><em>Angels Wear White<\/em><\/strong><\/a> brings us the work of Vivian Qu on the screen, one of the most renowned and appreciated contemporary Chinese filmmakers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/the-assassin\/\"><strong><em>The Assassin<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, by Hou Hsiao-hsien, winner of the Best Director Award at Cannes in 2015, proposed by Taiwan to the Oscars is a wonderful exploration of the history of martial arts, with the dialogues in Chinese. It is possibly one of the most viewed recent films in Europe, that has been meet by the international press with applause. During the Tang dynasty in the 9<sup>th<\/sup> century, a female assassin is ordered to kill a nobleman she\u2019d once loved. \u201cShot for shot, it\u2019s perhaps the most ravishingly beautiful film Hou has ever made, and certainly one of his most deeply transporting,\u201d writes the American publication \u201cVariety\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHINA FOCUS<\/strong> closes with the winner of this year\u2019s Golden Leopard from the Locarno International Film Festival, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/mrs-fang\/\"><strong><em>Mrs. Fang<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. The film about the radical documentarian Wang Bing tells a story that generated an entire ethical debate both during its filming, as well as after premiering, at the prestigious Swiss festival. <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/mrs-fang\/\"><strong><em>Mrs. Fang<\/em><\/strong><\/a> is presented in partnership with Astra Film Sibiu \u2013 being one of the 4 documentaries present at Cannes, and which the two festivals, taking place in parallel, have decided to present concurrently and in premiere this week in Bucharest and Sibiu.<\/p>\n<p>Also taking place this week is the <strong>B<\/strong><strong>\u00e9la Tarr Retrospective<\/strong>, with four of the director\u2019s most powerful films. Today, the film <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/almanac-fall-oszi-almanach\/\"><strong><em>Almanac of Fall<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (1985) is screened at <strong>20:30 <\/strong>at <strong>Cinema Eforie<\/strong>, as <strong>Saturday<\/strong> at the same place, the filmmaker\u2019s masterpiece, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/werckmeister-harmonies-werckmeister-harmoniak\/\"><strong><em>Werckmeister Harmonies<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (2001) is shown at <strong>15:45<\/strong>, and at <strong>19:00 o\u2019clock<\/strong>, the film awarded in Venice, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/calul-din-torino-torinoi-lo\/\"><strong><em>The Turin Horse<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (2011), after which the director decided to withdraw from filmmaking. Also at <strong>Cinema Eforie<\/strong>, the director\u2019s 7-and-a-half-hour film, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/satantango-satantango\/\"><strong><em>Satantango<\/em><\/strong> <\/a>(1994), will be shown on film on <strong>Sunday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/bela-tarr\/\"><strong>B<\/strong><strong>\u00e9la Tarr<\/strong><\/a>, a lone wolf of post-Tarkovskian, Eastern European cinema, rarely accepts public outings and for this, we are even more looking forward to the open discussion about cinema and his films, which will take place <strong>Saturday<\/strong> at <strong>Cinema Eforie<\/strong>. The highly-anticipated director will enter in dialogue with the renowned French critic, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/jean-michel-frodon\/\"><strong>Jean Michel Frodon<\/strong><\/a>, a special guest of the festival.<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least, <strong>Sunday<\/strong>, <strong>October<\/strong> <strong>15<sup>th<\/sup> <\/strong>is a special day in which the cinephile audience of Bucharest has the opportunity to see, in the flesh, one of the youngest and most talented actors of the moment, <strong>Louis Garrel<\/strong>. Coming from a family of filmmakers and present in two films that will be shown this weekend at the 8<sup>th<\/sup> edition of <strong>Les Films de Cannes <\/strong><strong>\u00e0 Bucarest<\/strong>, <strong>Louis Garrel<\/strong> will take questions from the audience after the screening of the film<a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/redoutable\/\"> <strong><em>Le Redoubtable<\/em><\/strong><\/a> at <strong>CinemaPRO<\/strong>, directed by Michel Hazanavicius, where he portrays the personality of Jean-Luc Godard, the emblematic figure of the French New Wave.<\/p>\n<p>With this, <strong>Les Films de Cannes <\/strong><strong>\u00e0<\/strong><strong> Bucarest<\/strong> invites you all to reserve your seats in time to the films and debates that interest you, as more than 10,000 tickets have already been booked before the opening of the festival by many lovers of the arthouse films brought from the Croisette this year.<\/p>\n<p>Every evening, after the screenings, cinephiles are expected for a glass of wine at <strong>Apollo 111<\/strong> (Strada Actor Ion Brezoianu, nr. 23-25) to talk about the films of the day and about those following.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for the eighth edition of Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest are on sale at <a href=\"https:\/\/eventbook.ro\/program\/festivalul-filmelor-de-la-cannes\">Eventbook.ro<\/a> and in the Eventbook network.
