The festival will organize a series of special screenings and discussions with the two invitees over the course of the <em>Artists in Dialogue <\/em>program, a unique occasion for cinephiles to see, on the big screen, films that made famous some of the most important auteurs of contemporary film.<\/p>\n<p>On<strong> October 14<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong>, at Cinemateca Eforie, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/bela-tarr\/\">B\u00e9la Tarr<\/a> will have a dialogue with the public after the screening of <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/turin-horse-torinoi-lo\/\"><strong><em>The Turin Horse<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, which he announced as the last he will do, and the discussion will be moderated by the French critic <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/jean-michel-frodon\/\"><strong>Jean Michel Frodon<\/strong><\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/laurent-cantet\/\">Laurent Cantet<\/a> will be present on <strong>October 18<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong>, at Cinema Elvira Popescu, for the Romanian premiere of the <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/the-workshop\/\"><strong><em>L\u2019Atelier\/The Workshop<\/em><\/strong><\/a> title, presented this year at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section.<\/p>\n<p>Between <strong>October 13<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong> and <strong>15<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong>, Cinemateca Eforie will host the <strong>B\u00e9la Tarr Retrospective<\/strong> during Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest, a program that will include four of his most important films. The <strong>B\u00e9la Tarr Retrospective<\/strong> is organized by Voodoo Films and financed by the National Center of Cinematography.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/almanac-fall-oszi-almanach\/\"><strong><em>\u00d6szi almanach<\/em><\/strong>\/<strong><em>Almanac of Fall<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, presented at the Locarno Festival in 1984, will inaugurate the section on October13<sup>th<\/sup>, followed by the screenings of <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/turin-horse-torinoi-lo\/\"><strong><em>The Turin Horse<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (2011), awarded the Jury Grand Prix\/The Silver Bear and the FIPRESCI Prize, and of <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/werckmeister-harmonies-werckmeister-harmoniak\/\"><strong><em>Werckmeister Harmonies<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, having had its world premiere at the Festival de Cannes in 2000, in the parallel section, La Quinzaine des R\u00e9alisateurs (Directors\u2019 Fortnight). On\u00a0 October 15<sup>th<\/sup>, the B\u00e9la Tarr retrospective will close with the screening of the feature film, <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/satantango-satantango\/\"><strong><em>S\u00e1t\u00e1ntang\u00f3<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, lasting seven and half hours. Jean Michel Frodon wrote about the film, <em>I don\u2019t believe it can be seen anywhere besides a cinema, precisely for its double reason of \u201cbeing there\u201d \u2013 in a time when, for better or worse, many very beautiful films can be seen on a small screen, at home. In this case, it cannot because it requires these two spaces: that of the film, built by the frame, the soundtrack and editing, and that of the room<\/em>. Based on the eponymous novel of L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Krasznahorkai, the film had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1994 and is critically regarded as clearly one of the best films in the history of cinematography.<\/p>\n<p>B\u00e9la Tarr will arrive in Romania on October 13<sup>th<\/sup> when the second edition of Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Cluj-Napoca will open. In Cluj, the filmmaker will have a dialogue with the public after the screening of <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/turin-horse-torinoi-lo\/\"><strong><em>The Turin Horse<\/em><\/strong><\/a> at Cinema Victoria, a discussion moderated by Prof. Doru Pop, PhD from Babe\u0219-Bolyai University.<\/p>\n<p>For the occasion of his participation in the festival, Les Films de Cannes \u00e0 Bucarest also organizes a section dedicated to the French auteur <strong>Laurent Cantet<\/strong>, the winner of the 2008 Palme d\u2019Or for the film <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/entre-les-murs\/\"><strong><em>Entre les murs<\/em><\/strong> \/ <strong><em>The Class<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. Considered by the New York Times as \u201can intelligent movie about modern French identity and the attempt to transform those bodies into citizens through talk\u201d, the film is a landmark in international cinematography, and the section <strong>Focus Laurent Cantet<\/strong> will be inaugurated on\u00a0 October 13<sup>th<\/sup> at Cinema Elvira Popescu. The director will come to Bucharest on October18<sup>th<\/sup> and will participate at the premiere of <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/the-workshop\/\"><strong><em>L\u2019Atelier<\/em><\/strong> \/<strong><em> The Workshop<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. The Guardian wrote about the film: <em>What L\u2019Atelier does best is the same as which made The Class sing: it\u2019s a film which demonstrates that debate, the exchange of ideas, can be as thrilling as any ramped up action flick<\/em>. The film will be preceded by the screening of his first short film, <strong><em>Tous <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00e0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> la manif<\/em><\/strong>, for which he received the Prix Jean Vigo in 1994. In Bucharest, it will be possible to see the films <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/retour-a-ithaque\/\"><strong><em>Retour <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00e0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> Ithaque<\/em><\/strong> \/ <strong><em>Return to Ithaca<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (Venice Film Festival, 2014) and <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/time-out\/\"><strong><em>L\u2019Emploi du temps<\/em><\/strong> \/ <strong><em>Time Out<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (2001), a film written by Cantet together with his usual collaborator, Robin Campillo, and placed in ninth place in the \u201cBest films of the Noughties\u201d selection, created by The Guardian.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Les Films de Cannes <\/strong><strong>\u00e0<\/strong><strong> Bucarest arrives this year<\/strong> in <strong>seven cities <\/strong>in the country as well, regional editions taking place in <strong>Timi\u0219oara<\/strong>, <strong>Ia\u0219i<\/strong>, <strong>Cluj<\/strong>, <strong>Bra\u0219ov<\/strong>, <strong>Sibiu<\/strong>, <strong>Arad<\/strong> and <strong>Suceava<\/strong>. Under the title <em>Les Films de Cannes@Astra Film Sibiu<\/em>, <em>Les Films de Cannes, in partnership with the documentary film festival Astra Film Sibiu, will schedule the premiere in Romania, both in Bucharest and in Sibiu, of three of the documentary films presented in this year\u2019s edition of the Cannes Festival.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The documentary <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/12-jours\/\"><em><strong>12 jours<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>(d. Raymond Depardon) is filmed in a psychiatric hospital where those admitted without their consent are placed before a judge that will decide their future<em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/le-venerable-w\/\"><strong>Le Venerable W.<\/strong> <\/a><\/em>is a delicate observation on how Islamophobia and hate speech transforms into violence and destruction. The Direction of <a href=\"https:\/\/filmedefestival.ro\/les-films-de-cannes\/editia-2017\/en\/le-venerable-w\/\"><strong><em>Venerable W<\/em>.<\/strong><\/a> is signed by Barbet Schroeder, known for films like <strong><em>G<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00e9n\u00e9ral Idi Amin Dada: Autoportrait<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>L\u2019avocat de la terreur<\/em><\/strong> (Un Certain Regard, Cannes 2007, the C\u00e9sar Award for best documentary, 2008).
