Director Gaspar Noé comes to Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest

The 9th edition of Les Films from Cannes à Bucarest begins today, October 19, at Cinema PRO, with Everybody Knows, in the presence of Iranian director Asghar Farhadi.

Also today, Les Films de Cannes à Timisoara (October 19-21) begins at Aula Magna of the University of the West. The film lovers of Timisoara will have a special quest in the first evening of the festival, the Mexican Carlos Reygadas, at the premiere of his film Nuestro Tiempo.

Les Films de Cannes à Arad opens today at Cinema Art for three days. The special guest of the first evening is director Zsófia Szilágyi, with One Day, his debut film, present in the section Semaine de la critique at Cannes festival.

14.000  tickets were sold in advance  for the festival Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest, which will take place at Cinema PRO, Cinema Elvire Popesco, Cinema Muzeul Țăranului, Cinemateca Union, Băneasa Shopping City Grand Cinema&More and CINETic.

From the surprises of the first days we mention the participation of the director Gaspar Noé.

The director returns to Romania as a guest of Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest for the third time and will meet with the audience on October 21st at Cinema PRO at the Climax film screening, which was named by Variety critics as “the most recent foray into Hell” of the incorrigible director.

This year Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest brings for the first time three photo exhibitions. At Cinema PRO, the audience will have the chance to admire the red carpet photos from this year’s Cannes festival made by artist Samina Seyed. At Apollo 111, the festival’s HUB, photos of Cristian Mungiu at Morelia will be exhibited, as part of the event Focus Mexico. And Cinema Muzeul Țăranului will host behind the scene images, which uncover the activity of the director Lucian Pintilie.

The four films from the first Friday of the Bucharest Festival will each have special guests. The first film screening of the evening is the love story Shéhérazade, by Jean Bernard Marlin. This debut coming directly from Semaine de la Critique will be projected in the presence of the director at Cinema Elvire Popesco.

At the same time, the film lovers can chose Cinema Muzeul Țăranului, for the beginning of the Tribute Lucian Pintilie, with the film Balanța and the documentary Filmare/Filmage, realized during the filming, in 1992. The producer Marin Karmitz, the actors Maia Morgenstern, Marcel Iureș and Ioan Chelaru and the director Gabriel Kosuth will be present during the show. Marin Karmitz will be present also on Sunday, to the screening of his film Coup pour coup.

The opening Gala brings Academy Award winning director Asghar Farhadi to Cinema PRO. He will also be present to the masterclass held after the screening of the film A Separation, on Saturday, at Cinema Elvire Popesco, and to the introduction of the film About Elly, on Sunday at Cinemateca Union.

On Saturday, the dreamers will spend the evening at Cinema PRO with the youngsters from Burning, adaptation after Haruki Murakami directed by Lee Chang-dong, who will be available at the end, via Skype, for a discussion with the audience. Zsófia Szilágyi will arrive in Bucharest for the screening of her movie, One Day, about a mother who struggling with the day of only 24 hours.

Also Saturday, Cinemateca Union will run Japón, the debut of the director Carlos Reygadas. He will be available for a Q&A session at the end of this film, that propelled him directly into the Cannes critics’ top charts. He will also be present on Sunday, at Our Time, his latest film that premiered in Venice this autumn. Our Time/Nuestro Tiempo displays Reygadas as a director, screenwriter and leading actor, and his whole family plays next to him. The director and his wife, editor and actress Natalia Lopez, will be present at the show followed by masterclass.

Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest invites viewers to reserve their place in advance for the films and discussions they are interested in. In the evenings, after the shows, they are welcomed to have a glass of wine and to talk about the films of the days and the ones that will follow, at Apollo 111 (23-25, Actor Ion Brezoianu Street).

The tickets and reservations, including the shows with free entry are available online on Eventbook.ro and at the ticket offices in each movie theater. Starting today, the available subtitles can be found on site the program of the festival.
