The screenings include Shoplifters, the winner of Palme D’Or 2018 and Lemonade by Ioana Uricaru

On Saturday, November 3rd, Les Films of Cannes begins in Oradea. The film lovers of Oradea will have the chance to see for the first time the movie that won the Cannes Grand Prix, Shoplifters, by Kore-Eda Hirokazu. They will also be able to watch the most en-voque Romanian film of the moment, Lemonade, directed by Ioana Uricaru. The Oradea edition will be held on November 3 and 4, at the Regina Maria Theater. All the films in the program will be introduced by the professor and film critic Doru Pop.

Shoplifters brouught the first Palme d’Or of his carrier too the director Kore-eda Hirokazu, after his seventh selection in the official competition of the Cannes. After the Jury Prize received in 2013 for Like Father, Like Son, Kore-eda receives this year the ultimate recognition for a warm and moving film about a family of petty-thieves who find an abandoned little girl and decide to take care of her as if it were their own child..

Lemonade, was presented in premiere this year at the Berlinale, after which it was selected in over 25 festivals, purchased for distribution in 12 countries and received six awards at international festivals, including the Sarajevo Film Festival directing prize. An immersive thriller about the American dream, Lemonade is the first Romanian film made in North America and tells the tough story of Mara, a 30-year-old young woman who goes to America with a visa for a job as a nurse. At the hospital where she works she’s lucky to meet Daniel, an American he marries before her visa expires. The problems begin when she need to get the green card so they can stay together.


On Sunday, November 4 at 20:00, two films will be projected in sequence without pause. In the opening s the short-film of the Romanian director Georgiana Moldoveanu, Albastru și roșu în proporții egale,/ Blue and Red in equal proportions, which premiered this year in Cannes in the section Cinefondation. And then Dogman will be presented, the film of the double Grand Prix winner in Cannes, Matteo Garrone, the director of the iconic film Gomorrah.The action of Dogman is also in the zone of the Sicilian mafia and tells the story of a nice dog groomer, caught between forces greater than him. In Cannes, the film received the Best actor award for the role played by Marcello Fonte.
