About the festival

Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest comes back between October 13th and 22nd, for the 8th year in a row, presenting the most expected films from Cannes Film Festival, in over 100 screenings  in 4 places in Bucharest – Cinema PRO, Cinema Elvira Popesco, Cinema Muzeul Țăranului Român and Cinemateca Eforie.

The festival will also continue to bring to the public the most important Romanian movies, that are getting ready for next year’s festival, under the title Les Films pour Cannes à Bucarest. The workshop, Managing Talents, dedicated to Romanian actors who plan to have an international carrier, is at its second edition this year. Special guests, Q&A sessions with directors, movie retrospectives and parties will spice up this year’s program.

This fall, the films that gathered the most rounds of applauses on the Croisette will be screened in other 7 cities. Les films de Cannes will also open across the country, in Brașov (Cinema One) between 13 – 19 of October, in Cluj (Cinema Victoria) between 13 -15 of October, in Timișoara (Filarmonica Banatul) , in Arad (Cinema Arta) and Iași (The Athenaeum) between 20 – 22 October and in Suceava between 10 – 12 November.

A special edition of the Les films de Cannes will also take place in partnership with ASTRA Sibiu Festival. Between the 16th and the 22nd of October, the two festivals will be screening a selection of documentaries that premiered at Cannes this year. The projections will be happening at the same time in Sibiu and Bucharest, under the name Les Films de Cannes @ Astra Film Sibiu.

During the last 7 years, Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest became one of the biggest cultural events in the capital city. Only last year the festival has brought together over 25.000 spectators, for approximately 100 screenings.

Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest is a cultural project initiated by director Cristian Mungiu, with the support of the Cannes Film Festival General Delegate, Thierry Frémaux.
