Eran Kolirin, one of the most celebrated Israeli contemporary filmmakers, will meet the audience of Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest on Friday and Saturday, for the screenings of two of his films.
The Band’s Visit (2007), recipient of an award in Cannes and screened in over 50 prestigious festivals, will be shown tonight at Cinema Elvire Popesco, at 18.30, in the presence of the director. On Saturday, at the same theatre, after the screening that will start at 20.30, Eran Kolirin will be there to talk to the audience about Beyond the Mountains and Hills, selected this year in Cannes’s Un Certain Regard section. The protagonist has just retired from the military after 27 years in service. Returning to his family that he had grown apart from, he tries to adjust to the pace of the ˝new Israel˝, a competitive culture obsessed with success and money. This will lead him into the deceitful snare of some obscure forces controlling Israeli society.
Other two special guests to the festival met with the audience in Bucharest on Wednesday and Thursday: Olivier Assayas, following the screenings of L’Eau froide (Cold Water) and Personal Shopper, and Mehmet Can Mertoğlu, winner of Révélation France 4 Award in the section Semaine de la Critique with his film Album.
