Tickets now on sale. Complete screening schedule

Tickets for one of this autumn’s most anticipated event are now available for purchase on Eventbook.ro and at the cinemas that will host Les Film de Cannes à Bucarest, 23 – 29 October: Studio Cinema, CinemaPRO and Elvire Popesco. Tickets may be bought on the day of the screening, but also ahead of time, on Eventbook.ro and the ticket offices at the three participating cinemas. The price for one ticket is 15 Lei for the last two screenings on weekdays, as well as all screenings starting at 17:00 or later during the weekend. For all other screenings during the week, the price is 10 Lei. This year, the public may choose between two types of passes: there is a discount of 20% off the total price for either a set of 6 tickets at the same cinema, or 10 tickets at any of the three cinemas, valid for any of the films.

The debates Piracy and cinema. How do we make it work? and How, why and for whom do we still write about film?, on 24 and 25 October; the master-class held by the director Jacques Audiard on 26 October at the Screening Room of the National University of Theatre and Film; the films A Prophet, The Beat That My Heart Skipped, Irréversible and the special screening for children 101 Dalmatians; the short films Ramona, Bad Penny and Kowalski and those in the program Romanian Short Waves, as well as the Aristoteles documentaries, all have free entry.

Radu Muntean will open the series of screenings at Studio Cinema with One Floor Below, selected in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. After the screening, the director will participate in a Q&A session open to the audience. Besides the meetings with Jacques Audiard, winner of the Palme d’Or with Dheepan, the actress and director Emmanuelle Bercot, the Croatian filmmaker Dalibor Matanic, author of The High Sun, Croatia’s entry for the Oscars, the public will have the chance to meet Corneliu Porumboiu on 28 October at 20:30, Elvire Popesco Cinema, where he will present for the very first time ever a 38 minute extract from a documentary that he filmed with the same protagonists, on the same subject, before it became a fiction film screenplay. The clip will precede the screening of The Treasure, recipient of the Un Certain Talent prize in the section Un Certain Regard at Cannes.

Another Cannes award winner – this time of the Canal+ prize in The Critics’ Week; Ramona, the short film by Andrei Crețulescu. It will be screened on 27 October, 15:45, at Elvire Popesco Cinema, along with Bad Penny and Kowalski, in the presence of the director. Free entry. There is also no charge for entry at the Romanian shorts’ screenings in the program, Romanian Short Waves, part of the non-competitive Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival.

A selection of the best films created in the documentary film atelier Aristoteles Workshop (AW), celebrating 10 years since its inception, may be viewed, divided in four parts, on 26, 27, 28 and 29 October at Elvire Popesco. Aristoteles Workshop was founded in 2005 by the actor Dan Nuțu and the present day director of the Romanian Culture Institute (ICR) in Berlin, Cristina Hoffman. In this decade of activity, 130 alumni have completed the program. Free entry.

Children will also have parts of the program dedicated to them during the weekend 24-25 October. They will be able to enjoy two charming screenings at Studio Cinema, free entry: 101 Dalmatians, the film that won the hearts and smiles of every Disney fan in 1996, starring Glenn Close as the evil Cruella, and Nicholas On Holiday, an adaptation of the children’s book series authored in the 60’s by René Goscinny (the creator of Asterix) and Jean-Jacques Sempé.

Between 23 and 29 October, at CinemaPRO, Studio Cinema and Elvire Popesco Cinema, some of the most acclaimed films of Cannes will be showing, some of them winners of the important awards – Dheepan (Palme d’Or), The Lobster (Jury Prize), The Assassin (Best Director), Chronic (Best Script), the 338 minute marathon Arabian Nights, Tale of Tales (starring Salma Hayek and Toby Jones), Louder than Bombs, Mustang (an Oriental take on The Virgin Suicides), Land and Shade (Camera d’Or). A few gauntlets will be thrown down in the form of a couple of debates on piracy and film criticism, during the 24-25 October weekend, while a contest will send its winner to Cannes.
