20:15 – Standing Tall / La Tête haute premiere (Studio Cinema) marking the Opening Gala of the Festival. The screening of the film that also opened the Cannes Film Festival will be attended by the director Emmanuelle Bercot. 11:00 – Debate: HOW, WHY AND FOR WHOM DO WE STILL WRITE ABOUT FILM? (Elvire Popesco Cinema) Special guests joining us are: Pascal Mérigeau, a noted French journalist and film critic, writing for Le Point, Le Monde and Nouvel Observateur, and involved in the selection process at the Cannes Film Festival, and Magali Montet, press agent at the Cannes Film Festival for the films in the official competition, a veteran of managing interviews with the international press. 20:45 – national premiere of Dheepan. Jacques Audiard, the director awarded the Palme d’Or in 2015, will attend the screening and will participate in a Q&A session after the film, moderated by the film critic Andrei Rus.
Monday, 26 October
11:00 – Master-class by the director Jacques Audiard, winner of the Palme d’Or in 2015 for the film Dheepan. The event will be held in the Screening Room of the National University of Theatre and Film (75-77 Matei Voievod Street). The master-class will be moderated by Andrei Rus. Free entry.
Tuesday, 27 October
15:45 – screening of the short films Ramona, Bad Penny and Kowalski, attended by the director Andrei Crețulescu. Following the screening, he will participate in a Q&A session moderated by Ileana Bîrsan.
20:15 – The High Sun premiere (Studio Cinema), winner of the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section and Croatia’s entry for the 2016 Oscars. The director Dalibor Matanić will be present and will participate in a Q&A session after the screening, moderated by the film critic Iulia Blaga.
Wednesday, 28 October
20:30 – The Treasure special screening (Elvire Popesco Cinema). The Romanian film, awarded the Un Certain Talent, will be screened with the director Corneliu Porumboiu in attendance and will be preceded by a 38 minute documentary about the actual treasure hunters that inspired the subject of the film, a documentary that will be screened for the very first time. Following the screening, Corneliu Porumboiu will participate in a Q&A session.
Thursday, 29 October
17:45 – closing of the Arabian Nights marathon, at the Elvire Popesco Cinema. The premiere of volume 3 – The Enchanted One. Following the screening, the director Miguel Gomes will answer the audience’s questions live, via Skype, in a Q&A session moderated by Boglarka Naghi and Andrei Rus. Starting with Tuesday, 27 October, film lovers will have the chance to watch the entire marathon 338 minute film that’s inspired by “One Thousand and One Nights”, spread over three parts in three days.
